In this course, deductive and inductive techniques are used to help students make conjectures, formulate generalizations, and draw conclusions. The topics explored include parallelism, perpendicularity, similarity, and congruence of polygons, characteristics of circles, the surface area and volume of solid figures, and the introduction to right triangle trigonometry.
Tests/quizzes/labs/projects count 80% of your grade, and homework/classwork will count as 20%. These percents may change during the course of the year. All tests will carry equal weight. The weights of quizzes, labs, and projects will vary, depending on the amount of material required.
Appropriate behavior is expected at all times and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Please bring all required materials to class every day, as locker passes will not be issued. Lav passes will be given for emergency situations only.
Hats are not to be worn in the classroom and gum chewing is not to be seen or heard. Food and /or drink are not
allowed in the classroom.

Each day students must bring their covered math book, a pencil with an eraser, and a notebook that is specifically for math. A .5 inch 3-ring binder is best suited for this class. If a student does not have his or her own calculator, one will be provided for use in the classroom.
Homework is assigned almost every day and is graded as follows:
4 pts. (100%): all exercises attempted; work shows a very good understanding of the material, even though there may be some errors
3 pts. (75%) a. with a date: all problems attempted, but the errors made indicate a need for additional work to
2 pts. (50%) improve the understanding of the material; corrections should be done on separate paper,
1 pt. (25%) stapled to the top of the original and turned in by the indicated date; grade can be improved
b. without a date: not all problems attempted; grade cannot be changed
0 pts. (0%): less than 20% of the assignment attempted; no credit; grade cannot be changed
Late work is not accepted unless there are extenuating circumstances. If a student has a verified absence from class, the assignment(s) must be turned in within five days of the absence.
A test will be given at the end of each unit. All tests are announced at least two days in advance. If a student misses a test due to a verified absence, it can be made up after school or during a study hall, within five days of the absence. If a student has been absent for an extended period of time, other arrangements will be made.
Some quizzes will be announced and some will not. Daily review of material will prepare students for any unannounced quizzes, which generally cover single concepts, new terminology and/or vocabulary. The make-up policy for quizzes is the same as for tests.
A student who has been absent or dismissed is expected to make up all school work, however credit will only be given for this work if the absence has been verified. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what work was missed and to make any necessary arrangements.
Attendance in class is essential to the learning process. Students who are not in class miss the opportunity to ask questions, listen to the questions of others, contribute to class discussion, listen to the contributions of other students, and to collaborate with their peers.
Tardy students will be admitted to class however if a valid pass cannot be presented, the tardy will be counted as unexcused and the student will receive a grade of zero for any assignment or assessment missed.
If a student arrives with an unexcused tardy after a test/quiz has begun, no additional time will be given. Every third unexcused tardy will result in a detention and parents will be notified. Excessive tardiness will be referred to Building Administration for further action.
Students are encouraged to ask questions in class. If additional help is needed, I do provide after school help and a calendar is posted in the classroom that indicates the days I am available. Students must arrive by 2:10, with class notes, problems attempted, and prepared questions. I also welcome questions via e-mail.
