CLASS OF 2008 SENIOR ACTIVITIES – DATES, TIMES AND INFORMATION
Please remember that all school policies will be strictly enforced for all events.
***THE GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS HAVE ARRIVED***
Graduation announcements may be picked up in front of the gym during lunch on Wednesday May 21 or Friday May 23. Each senior will receive 5 announcements. A limited number of extra announcements will be available for $1 each will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please note that these are announcements and not invitations/tickets to attend the graduation ceremony.
An additional pick-up date has been added: Friday, May 30 during lunch.
The Senior Awards Assembly will be held in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m. for seniors, parents, and guests. Only seniors receiving awards need be present, but others are welcome. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Seniors receiving awards and scholarships will be notified during the week prior to the ceremony. Award and scholarship recipients should dress appropriately for the event - shirts and ties for men, skirts, slacks, blouses, or dresses for women (no jeans, shorts, T-shirts). Also, please remember to send a personal thank you note to the person or organization sponsoring each award you receive.
Seniors attending the Outing must report to the auditorium by 7:25 a.m. All seniors going on the outing will be assigned to a bus; no cars are permitted. Buses will return to the high school by 7 p.m. Bring your bathing suit, towel, suntan lotion, change of clothing, jacket, frisbee, tennis racket, baseball equipment, etc. DO NOT BRING valuables (watches, rings, and wallets). Horseback riding is available at $20 an hour. All other activities and food are free. Breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks, and soda are available in abundance. Music will be provided by a disc jockey during the afternoon. Students who possess, distribute, or use alcohol or drugs will be subject to school disciplinary action. They will be escorted from the premises by the local police and subject to arrest/prosecution.
The Senior Reception will be held at La Renaissance in East Windsor; dress is semi-formal (no jeans, shorts, T-shirts). The social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m.; soft drinks and hot hors d’oeuvres will be served. A buffet dinner will be served promptly at 7:30 p.m. There will be dancing until midnight. Smoking will not be permitted.

Wednesday, June 18– Graduation Rehearsal
Seniors must report to the auditorium by 8:00 a.m. for a rehearsal at the First Cathedral. All students will be provided bus transportation; no cars are permitted. We will leave the First Cathedral by noon and return to the high school. All seniors who will attend the graduation ceremony MUST attend the rehearsal.
Seniors must report to the auditorium by 3:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The First Cathedral. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Graduation is a class activity and not the time for personal statements; therefore, cap and gown adornments are not allowed. Appropriate dress for graduation is shirt, tie, slacks, and shoes for men and skirts, pants, blouses, and dresses for women.
South Windsor Operation Graduation is sponsoring the annual drug and alcohol free graduation night party on June 18 for all seniors. The event commences at 9:30 p.m. at Nomads, 100 Bissell Street, South Windsor and concludes early the next morning. Students must arrive by 11 p.m. The party has entertainment and activities throughout the evening including games, sporting activities and many other things. There will be plenty of food, beverages, and PRIZES to keep your graduate here all night. The party is free of charge to all seniors. However, parents are encouraged to make a $35.00 donation to help defray the costs of the event payable to: South Windsor Operation Graduation, P.O. Box 545, South Windsor, CT. This tax-deductible donation is not part of your senior dues. Please note that if your graduate wants to leave the party BEFORE 4:30 a.m., you will receive a call from a South Windsor Operation Graduation committee representative to seek your approval. This helps keep all the graduates safe!

The selection of First Cathedral as the site for graduation offers the best facility for our needs at an acceptable cost. The selection of this venue in no way represents an endorsement by the school district of a specific religion or religion in general.
Transportation for graduates:
Graduates will be transported by bus from South Windsor High School to The First Cathedral. Seniors need to be at the high school by 3:30 p.m. Parents will be responsible for transporting graduates home from the ceremony. If there is a transportation problem, please contact Ms. Mawhinney (tmawhinney@swindsor.k12.ct.us).
Parking for guests:
Parking is available on the premises.
Tickets/Caps and Gowns:
Each senior who is eligible to graduate will receive 2 VIP tickets and 3 General Admission tickets.
Although there are no assigned seats, tickets will be assigned by section (first floor or mezzanine). You
may request up to 2 additional General Admission tickets by notifying Mrs. Mazzonna via e-mail
(smazzonna@swindsor.k12.ct.us) by June 2 with your name, the name of your graduating senior, your
phone number and the number of additional tickets requested. If the number of requests exceeds the
number of available tickets, a lottery will be held. Additional tickets may not be in the same section as
your other tickets.
Tickets may be picked up at the high school by a parent or a senior on Monday, June 9 from
3:00 -6:30 p. m. or on Tuesday, June 10 from 3:00 - 6:30 p. m. Please be prepared to show
appropriate identification.
Caps and gowns will also be available for pickup at these times. To receive caps and gowns, seniors
must have cleared all financial liabilities including graduation fees, textbooks, media center materials,
or other school property considered lost or damaged and belonging to South Windsor Public Schools.
Caps and gowns will belong to the graduate and do not have to be returned.
Handicapped seating:
The First Cathedral has a limited number of seats available for those with special needs. If you require
special seating for any of your guests, please notify Mrs. Mazzonna by June 2 via e-mail
(smazzonna@swindsor.k12.ct.us) Please specify whether or not the guest will be seated in a wheelchair
and would like a companion seated with them. Special seating tickets are included as part of the five
tickets per graduate.
